Marc Marquez wins Misano madness

Reigning world champion Marc Marquez won his 4th race of season at Misano in a frantic fiasco of race which had rain and double bike swap.

The riders started the race in slicks & dry conditions but once the race started there were rain drops and the riders were flagged as flag to flag wet race.

As always it was Yamaha rider and championship contendor Jorge Lorenzo took a holeshot into the lead with Marquez closely following. Championship leader and home rider Valentino Rossi also got a decent start and was third but was slightly slower than the top two riders.

The top riders went steady and Rossi too caught up with the leader and as the rain started to fall heavy the riders went into change for wet tyred bike swap and Marquez and Lorenzo almost got out side by side out of the pits with Rossi drop down further behind the leaders. As the rain started get heavier Marquez overtook Lorenzo and Rossi too started close in on the leaders. Lorenzo went back into the lead and was struggling in the wets with Marquez seriously fighting and Rossi waiting for the call.

As the rain stopped and dry line started to appear the riders were in trouble again as the wet tryes were losing out and becoming  unstable. Marquez who tried to overtake Lorenzo looked as if he missed a gear or something let Rossi into 2nd behind team mate Lorenzo and withing couple of laps started to attack Lorenzo and got into the lead much to the delight of the home crowd.

Rossi was steady in the lead but the track dried out and there was another need for a change of bike with a dry tryes. Unable to judge the forecast inspite of pit calls the leaders were hesitating to pit. As the tryes where chunking too much Marquez pitted in first of the leaders leaving the championship contenders Rossi and Lorenzo to decide for themselves in respect of the title fight.

Rossi and Lorenzo carried on for 2 more laps with worn out tires losing 10secs per lap. Rossi was waiting for his championship rival to make a decision while Lorenzo who was running 2nd came in first leaving Rossi to run with a bad trye losing valuable time.

Rossi got into the pits in the next lap, Lorenzo was already out in the track with dry tryes and Marquez took the lead with both hands.

As Rossi came rejoined the track, his team mate cum championship rival Lorenzo crashed out on the last corner unable to heat the slick tryes leaving Rossi with a points advantage.

Marquez was 30secs ahead of Rossi in 5th who lost 10secs per lap to Marquez due to the delayed pit stop. Meanwhile Bradley Smith who gambled with dry tyres in the wet found himself in 2nd with another Brit Scott Redding  who crashed and came into change the bike with wet tyres in 3rd while open class rider Loris Baz first among all riders to do the second bike swap found lucky to be running 4th.

With 7 laps to go Rossi gap to the fore runners were too big to catch up but with the hindsight of the championship after Lorenzo´s crash he tried to hand on to 5th with Pirro catching up with his Ducati.

Marquez took a sweet first victory at Misano with Smith and Redding in the podium, while Rossi extending his 12 points lead into 23 points ahead of Lorenzo with just 5 races to go.

The next race is at Aragon, a state in Spain where Lorenzo and Marquez are looking for comeback while Rossi is eager to make the maximum of the situation.
